June Mood
A summer by the sea
As of last week, school is officially out and summer has begun.
I always get a little emotional at the end of the school year. Maybe it’s because every June feels like a practice in letting go.
There are the obvious goodbyes to teachers who have cared for our children all year, but in expat life there are often bigger goodbyes too. Friends move away. Families start new adventures somewhere else. It feels like another chapter comes to an end.
And then there are the goodbyes no one talks about. The realization that the kids are getting older. They’re changing, and somehow I am too.
At the same time, there’s something about this season that feels so freeing. The calendars clear, bedtimes become a little less strict, and life feels a little less scheduled. I’m so ready for the long, slow days ahead. It feels like exactly what we all need.
It’s been a much-needed exhale after the last few weeks preparing for 3 Days of Design.
In case you missed it, we were honored to join the Openhouse Magazine exhibition with a selection of Devon Liedtke decorative objects, thoughtfully curated by our friend Henriette Schou. The exhibition took place at The Conary alongside incredible brands like JOV, Japan Form, and STOFF Nagel.
We also hosted a Portraits of Self activation during the Openhouse launch party. It ended up being one of my favorite moments of the week. In the middle of one of the busiest weeks in design, it created space to slow down, connect, and have conversations that probably wouldn’t have happened otherwise.
Copenhagen always fills my cup creatively. Between the inspiration from the city and the solo artist date watercolor class I took recently, I’ve been reminded how much I enjoy creating simply for the sake of creating. I’m hoping these slower weeks of summer leave a little more room for just that.
That inspiration always seems to find its way into what I’m wearing, too. I naturally find myself reaching for soft blues, butter yellow, creamy whites, and linen this time of year. Clothes that feel easy. Comfortable. Made for long beach days and dinners that stretch late into the evening.
Here are a few favorites that capture that feeling for me.
This Róhe jacket is the perfect June layer for breezy evenings outside.
This satin bag from Toteme is so cute. And, I love anything that can become a crossbody.
These Donni pants are a summer staple, and I’m really into with this butter yellow hue.
Cream flats go with everything, and I’m particularly drawn to the long toe box on these Reformation ones.
This sheer dress from Leset is a standout. Wear it over a swimsuit for a day at the beach or paired with jeans for a laid-back lunch.
I have been living in linen, so this relaxed button-down is a no-brainer.
For something a little more structured, The Anteros shirts are a favorite, each one has some kind of fun detailing that makes a basic just a little more special.
And when a mom tote is inevitable, no one does it better than L.L.Bean.
Finally, for breezy afternoons by the water, a cable-knit is essential, and this one from J.Crew is just right.
I hope your June has been lovely so far.
With Love,
Devon
